Calm, Chic, and Canine-Centred: Inside George's Dog Boutique in Wimbledon Village
Looking for a gentle, thoughtful groomer in Wimbledon Village? George's Dog Boutique offers expert care in a serene setting, where every detail is designed around your dog's comfort and well-being.
It was a rainy weekday walk that first led me to George's. I had recently moved to Wimbledon and was scoping out dog-friendly spots when I passed a charming storefront with sleek branding, natural light, and a distinct feeling that it had been designed with dogs in mind. Inside, the boutique shelves were lined with high-quality grooming products, neatly folded blankets, and beautifully packaged dog essentials. The interior design is gorgeous, and all of it creates an atmosphere that immediately makes you feel welcome.
I popped in for some bits for my own dog, but I couldn't help asking more about the grooming salon tucked just beyond the boutique shelves. What followed was a photography session that turned into a heartwarming glimpse behind the scenes of one of Wimbledon's most beloved pet businesses.
From High Fashion to High Quality Fur Care
George's Dog Boutique was born, quite literally, out of love for George. Marina, the founder, used to work in high-end fashion in London, but found herself daydreaming about dogs more than dresses. When grooming appointments for George were hard to come by locally, she had a thought many of us have had: "What if I just did it myself?"
But Marina didn't stop at the idea.
After a few attempts at grooming George at home, she quickly realised it wasn't just a matter of snipping and hoping for the best. There was a craft to it, an art even. She began her City & Guilds training with the goal of building something new: a salon where dogs were treated not just with skill, but with softness.
"I knew that my goal was to employ highly experienced and skilled groomers," she shared, "but I couldn't embark on the George's journey without first becoming an expert myself."
Naming the business was easy. "None of it would have happened without George," she said. "It seemed right to name the business after him. To think I nearly called him Puddle the Poodle!"
Thoughtful Grooming, where every dog’s needs are met
There are no cages. No crowded waiting pens. No rushed sessions. The moment a dog walks through the door, the team adapts everything - from the bath temperature to the playlist - to suit that dog's mood and needs.
For nervous pups, the team may split up the grooming process over a few visits, starting with just a bath or nail trim, gradually building trust. "We talk to the owners and plan a way forward that makes sense for the dog," Marina explained. "Every dog's triggers and behaviours are unique, so their grooming experience should be too."
Puppies are gently introduced to grooming through short, positive sessions that prioritise calm over completion. As Marina explains, getting dogs used to brushing and handling early on can make a world of difference later in life.
I watched this in action during my visit. There was soft music playing, warm lighting, and not a single barking dog in sight. Just quiet tail wags and gentle conversation between the groomers themselves and the dogs they were pampering. The salon is designed with canine comfort at its core: lowered tables and baths for easy access, air conditioning for a consistent temperature, soft music playing throughout the day, and dryers set to the lowest possible decibel. There’s even a cosy pen area with sofas and toys, giving dogs the option to lounge or play before and after their groom.
The Team Behind the Magic
It was lovely to meet the grooming team, all of whom are City & Guilds Level 3 certified and regularly attend seminars to hone their craft. There's a deep sense of passion and pride in their work. Whether they're deshedding a double-coated breed or sculpting a Poodle into perfection, each dog is treated like a VIP.
Some of their favourite styles to create include Asian Fusion trims, teddy bear cuts, and those satisfying complete transformations. One favourite client? A Sheepadoodle named Oreo, whose owner described him as looking like "a Hollywood star" after his first visit.
Behind the scenes, there are warm touches of personality, too. The team curates a relaxing playlist each day - though not without some friendly debate. "Two of us love musicals," Marina jests, "but Lilac doesn’t like musicals at all. We try to compromise with something calming for the dogs and team alike."
Every photo in this session told a story - even the quiet ones.
A Dog's Day Out at George's
Each day at George's begins with the team arriving early to prepare the salon and boutique. The topiary poodle goes out front, the products are checked, and every detail is made perfect for the first dog to arrive at 9am.
Owners are warmly welcomed inside for first-time visits. They can see the salon, meet the team, and even pick their dog's post-groom fragrance. The grooming experience is entirely transparent and always tailored.
Marina told me about Rupert, a regular who bursts through the door each time like he's arriving at his favourite party. And Maple, the salon's unofficial fairy dogmother - a calm, sweet-natured Labrador who belongs to Lucy, the senior groomer.
What Makes George's Different?
No cages, ever
Calm, low-sensory environment
Scent selection and custom experience per dog
Gentle handling techniques for anxious pups
Ultrasonic teeth cleaning (recommended by local vets), paw balm, deep conditioning, and seasonal spa specials
Natural, high-quality products throughout
It’s also worth noting that grooming is no light task. "People are surprised by how physical it is," Marina shared. "It’s not all puppies and pupcakes, it’s serious work!" That respect for the job and the dogs runs through every detail at George’s.
It all adds up to something that feels less like a grooming appointment and more like a doggie retreat.

Client Love That Says It All
One client who moved away from Wimbledon ended up returning - not to live, but just to bring her dogs back to George's. "She said she'd rather do the drive than take her dogs anywhere else," Marina recalled.
And it's not just about looks. Emotional transformations happen, too. Dogs become more confident, more trusting, more at ease. That's the real magic here.
